Seeking Integrated Emergency Communications in India
Our firm provided technical expertise to support Optimal Solutions & Technology, Inc. (OST) and the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to prepare integrated solutions for Indian emergency communications for police, fire and ambulance services. We provided this technical support to OST on projects in Hyderabad, a city of about 10 million residents and the state of Gujarat, with over 60 million residents.
The projects focused on developing an integrated concept of operations and technical solution between police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS). The solution called for the use of an integrated technical platform using integrated emergency call taking through the use of a single number – 100 for responding to citizens in need. The Home Ministry and Greater Hyderabad Region public safety officials approved the project design and implementation plan.
In Gujarat, we supported OST to plan a Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) system for the state, starting with the capital region cities of Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad. The Gujarat Home Department and the key public safety stakeholders approved the plan.
Throughout both projects, we worked closely with multiple stakeholders to include 108 ambulance service call centers, fire, police, health departments, IT agencies, and telecommunications carriers. In addition, we collaborated with the TRAI, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India on a wide array of technical issues to include caller location technology and NG911 technology.
